Welcome to my channel! I'm based in the tri-state area, but I've filmed a wide variety of trains from around the world. I used to make videos more routinely, but I remain involved in the hobby, and I still do post if I film something interesting. Enjoy!
PM Rush NJ Transit Railfanning at Hoboken Terminal (6/7/24)
The many arrivals and departures during the PM rush at Hoboken, taken between 4:30 and 5:15. I was fortunate enough to see NJT's two remaining F40PH-2CATs right next to each other, as well as NJT 4109 wearing its CNJ livery, making the time it took to get to Hoboken well worth it. Enjoy!

Just a quick video I shot this afternoon on #217's second day of service in the new wrap. Would've been nice to have caught it yesterday when it debuted but whatever lol. Enjoy.
Amtrak ALC-42 Test Train on the Hudson Line @Hastings-on-Hudson (11/20/23)

Earlier today I got word of Amtrak running an ALC-42 test train up the NEC and onto the Hudson Line, so of course I stood in the cold to catch it. Lots of other rare stuff came through during the hour or so I spent waiting, so I may post that later. Enjoy!

No, that is NOT a typo! On the morning of Sunday, October 8th, Metro-North assigned a set of M8s to a SB semi-express out of Harmon. I don't have any leads on why, but my best guess is that it had something to do with power issues on the New Haven Line the previous afternoon. Enjoy!

I happened to be in the area this afternoon and took the time to film a bit of action on the upper Harlem. Here's train 964, with one of CDOT's recently-rebuilt BL20GHMs shoving, on its way to Southeast. Enjoy

I happened to be at Riverdale station a few days ago and encountered this thing. I don't have any info on why they had two sets of cars, but if I were to guess, I'd say repositioning. Enjoy.

Here's the first of (hopefully many) Metro-North heritage units commemorating the railroads 40th anniversary. I'm pretty sure today (5/23/23) was #208's first day of revenue service in the new wrap as well, so it was nice and clean (for once lol).

English: Aside from my (albeit cryptic) post of a photo taken along the Belgrano Norte Line, my trip to Argentina has been kept pretty hush-hush. This is the first of a few videos I filmed down there over a week last month. I also filmed various lines on the Buenos Aires Subte, Roca trains at Guernica, and along the Belgrano Norte Line both on board the trains and at Villa Rosa. Those should be...

Great F40 shot
Tons of action here! Great compilation
One track is still without third rail power? What is up with that?
Yes, only three of the four are electrified. I've always wondered the same thing, but I can't find any definitive answer as to why.
@@TheRandomRailfan I think they all were at one time and may have heard PC removed one third rail. Very strange. 🤔
That mini bomb was probably going to GCT, from there it’s either going to Stamford or Southeast.
Most likely
Idk how your expected to fit into stations with 7 cars and especially seeing them on comets is crazy
Great catch!
Thank you! It's always nice to see a shiny new wrap
That made my day to see that paint scheme. It actually looks great on those angular locos.
It really does! Though a more turquoise hue would have looked better (as a nod to the poorly applied blue paint that turned green on some of the FL9s in the early 1970s 😅)
Nice catch man basically the conrail 2.0!
Yeah it's a little too close to 201's livery imo, but the gold-on-blue is starting to grow on me. PC black still would've been cooler though ;)
@@TheRandomRailfanI guess because it already has a black and white on 230 with the Penn central logo that’s probably why they didn’t do that paint scheme but I think it still looks good though.
All these years and they still never got those wayside horns going.
Heh, can't say I'm complaining
I like it it's cool nice video
I did got to see this little engine running at the Strasburg Railroad back in June 26th 2023.
what is marc doing in new york
The bridge on Amtrak's West Side Line to Penn was being worked on so for the summer they were running into GCT. Some of Amtrak's P32s didn't have the front hatches so they put the MARC cab cars up front, which do.
ALC-42 has got to be my favourite Charger design. My home country's SCV-42s are great and all but their nose shape is odd. I wish they'd stuck with the original livery idea too...
Totally agree. I've never seen Via's original livery, maybe it would've looked better?
I didn’t even get that test train because how do I know if they’re gonna start doing a test run
Fan Railer mentioned it in a few Facebook groups I'm in. I wouldn't have known either if I didn't check.
now i'm concerned
Why?
@@TheRandomRailfan they might actually go through with that crazy Empire Corridor proposal
@@metronorthfoamer4085 Ohh gotcha
@@metronorthfoamer4085what crazy proposal?
@@StefanWithTrains3222 They wanna go with some battery powered charger charged by third rail with a prime mover on the side I think. It's pretty stupid, I would just do the tried and true dual mode operation with a dual pickup third rail, but things have to be so over-engineered these days.
Yea nice catches catching these Amtrak keystones with nice horn sailutes
Perfectly normal for them as it's quiet
Awesome shot! Definitely rare
I know, I was shocked to see it on the TrainTime app lol
👌
🤯🤯
Sweet catch!
Thank you!
Hey I was there on that day!
Marc sure does have fantastic bells!
Who here thinks that 208 might get an E bell soon

My childhood nightmare became a reality, sentient vehicles
Nice vid Welcome back!
Thank you!
Never heard grade crossings like that. sounds electronic !
They're very common in Metro-North, but maybe not elsewhere?
The bells are Western Cullen Hayes electronic bells, most railroads use them these days though I believe the LIRR typically still installs new mechanical bells (also from WCH, the only company that still makes them). WCH e-bells aren't super common here on the east coast, the MBTA and Metro-North seem to be the only operations that typically use them as standard, though the NYSW has been installing them on newer installs (IIRC) and you can find a good few across Georgia on the various shortlines around that state. Out west, you can find a lot of them as UP loved to use them for a long time, and still often uses them for bell replacements.
Great video! I watch it every day.
How long will they keep this scheme?
I don't know for sure, but since it's a vinyl wrap and not paint I can't imagine it sticking around for more than a few years.
@@TheRandomRailfan I see I hope someday it can hit the rails to Harlem and New Haven Lines
There a VIP one still Running in Morocco 🇲🇦 the Royal train,
I have been scouring MTA’s Train Time app looking for this locomotive like it’s the missing link.
I was doing the same lol.
@@TheRandomRailfan What's the deal with it? Are they just gonna run it on the Hudson line or are they using it on other lines?
@@liamweaver2944 One was recently spotted at Mt Haven East NHL so I guess they are using it on any Diesel service out of GCT
@@VermyScrubs Yeah I know. I discovered later they were operating it on a service near me, and was able to film it.
It’s a heritage unit now lol
Talking of metro north 40th anniversary. Do u know when the other 4 are going to be wrapped. Do u know by any chance what engines are going to be wrapped
@@RampageRod-kt8mj I do not. It has been over 2 months since we had the 1st P32 wrapped. I suppose we are expecting Conrail, Penn Central and New York Central wraps. There should be some news about them if they come out. I am not in any way apart of metro north, and I do not work for metro north either. Happy railfanning!
Went to see it today (5/24) between 8am and 2pm, unfortunately it sat in Harmon Yard all day. Guess I'll get it another time. Theoretically, I did see it, just sitting by the shops...
Aw, sorry you missed it. TrainTime tells you which train a certain locomotive/car is assigned to, so it helps find specific locomotives like 208. That's how I caught it yesterday.
@@TheRandomRailfan Yeah thanks for the info I used it all today hoping to see 208 popping up but now I'll be on the lookout hopefully on the danbury branch or somewhere closer to me
@Random Railfan Permission to use this footage in my railway news Periodical? I will give you credit in the video.
@@Pensyfan19 Go ahead!
With an e bell too!
Bit of an odd choice, no?
@@TheRandomRailfan Yes. However, it’s a good change from hearing mechs all around the system.
208 has a regular bell. The cab car doesn’t. A select number of locomotives do have e bells.

Ardsley on Hudson is awesome, great video also sub 👍
Thank you!
This is great! I would consider heading down there so any tips to get around Buenos Aires and Argentina for railfanning would be great for future reference.
Glad you enjoyed it! Buenos Aires' Subte is pretty expansive and centered around the middle of the city, so that combined with the super cheap taxis makes getting around the city very easy. Getting around Buenos Aires Province is easy with the commuter rail network, unless you're venturing more than 40ish miles from the center of the city. There's a huge variety of rolling stock on some of the commuter lines, so honestly any part of the network is good for railfanning. Just make sure you're in a safe area before you start filming, holding your phone or camera out in the open makes you a prime target for thieves. It's not a super rampant problem but you can't just go wherever with a $2,000 camera setup and not worry about being mugged. As long as you have your wits about you riding and experiencing Argentina's rail lines is fantastic.
Your video is absolutely perfect! Great weather, great video Thanks for the ride!
Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did!
